RSCPA Appeal
The floods in Queensland have been terrible and of course people's animals
are at risk as well and have had to be rescued and accommodated. If you knowanyone who might be interested, an appeal has been launched by theQueensland RSPCA. Maybe some of your whippet people would like to know thatan appeal has been launched in case they want to help.   RSPCA Qld is calling for donations that can be used to purchase pet, livestock and wildlife supplies in areas affected by the current floodcrisis. We're urging people to donate financially rather than dropping offsupplies because of the logistics involved in moving those much need itemsthroughout the State. Money that could otherwise be used to help animalswould be taken up in transportation and packaging costs.  RSPCA's Townsville and Fairfield Shelters sent crates to help authoritiesdeal with domestic pets stranded in Theodore and we have now set up atemporary Shelter at the evacuation centre at Central Queensland University. We have also set up a data base of foster carers in the area who can lookafter pets and livestock during the crisis. We have three Inspectors plus aboat and our volunteer ambulance devoted to animal rescues. To date theirefforts have been encouraging, particularly in regard to livestock andnative wildlife.  In simple terms we're doing the best we can. But we are a charity andwhichever way you look at it we can't solve the problems by ourselves. Wecontinue to rely on assistance from local authorities and of course the petand livestock owners of Queensland. We have to become proactive rather thanjust reactive. In the meantime our dedicated Inspectors and ambulanceofficers will continue to do their utmost to help animals affected by thefloods.  Below you'll find the anticipated costs of items that we think will beneeded. However please understand that donations may not necessarily godirectly towards the items you have selected.    $2000 can rent a helicopter to support rescue efforts.  $1500 can rent a semi trailer to transport feed and animals throughaffected areas.  $1000 can purchase a large animal rescue sling.  $500 can purchase a field medication kit.  $300 can help to purchase equipment to rescue, transport and housewildlife stranded in the floods.  $250 can purchase a domestic animal transport crate.  $150 can help to get a rehabilitation kit to a carer to assist wildlifewho have lost their homes.  $100 can help with Veterinary Treatments for multiple animals.  $70 can help with equipment to assist with rescue efforts.  $60 can provide special dietary requirements, a pouch or a perch forwildlife.  $50 can purchase a pet care pack for stranded domestic pets.  $40 can buy a bale of hay to feed stranded livestock.  $25 can buy a pet food pack for stranded domestic pets.Information about the appeal and how to donate are on the website atwww.rspcaqld.org.au

Lure Racing Day

Here is some good news that you’ve all been waiting for.  Please pass this info onto friends and acquaintances and anyone who has been inquiring about whippets as this is a great chance to get some hands on experience with the breed.

We are planning to hold a Lure Race/Fun Day on August 21st – PLEASE REFER TO THE ABOVE FLYER FOR FULL DETAILS.

Also below are our strict rules that apply to the day – PLEASE PRINT THESE OUT TO REMIND YOU – MOST IMPORTANT

The new venue is a bit smaller than Healesville and quite a different set up anyway.  You will be able to park your cars next to the track so even if it’s cold and wet you can watch from your car or dive into the car if it starts to rain.  There is a small grandstand also.  We will have all our merchandise for sale as usual.  Good quality BBQ food & salads for sale as very reasonable prices.  The usual complimentary tea & coffee supplied.  If you have “excitable” dogs we do have muzzles on hand for your use.  This will be a more or less “trial” day but we are relying on your full support as usual.  This venue has family friendly facilities but remember to bring lots of warm clothing and waterproof shoes because like everywhere in Vic at the moment the ground could be a bit water logged.  Don’t forget to bring along old towels to dry your whippets if it looks like raining.  You know what Melb can throw at us.  Be ready for anything.

We will need a few extra hands on the day to help in the catching pen, to help with slipping, to help in the assembly area.

If you are planning to come to our Fun Day PLEASE BRING PLENTY OF CASH as our swipe machine for credit cardis not working very well so I would prefer to avoid using it.  To have an electronic credit card machine is not an option as the banks charge far too much for this service.  We really rely on our Fun Days to raise money for our club so we take umbrage at giving our hard earned profits back to the banks.  FILL YOUR POCKETS WITH LOTS OF DOSH, put a chair in your car so you can sit down and nurse your whippet after all the FUN he/she is going to have and see all you WHIPPET LOVERS.  Also remember, ours is a PURE BREED DOG CLUB so if you have any questions about anything WHIPPETY there will be plenty of people to answer questions & guide you in the right direction. RCM

RULES FOR LURE RACE/FUN DAYS

1.  Dogs must be kept on leads & under control of owner at all times, except when racing. NO EXCEPTIONS.  Please make doubly sure that thecollar on your dog is adequate & will not slip off easily.

2.  If you have more than one dog that you are planning to race, place the others away until ready to race.  ONLY ONE PERSON HANDLING ONE DOG.

3. Absolutely no person allowed on race track unless slipping your dog at the beginning of a race.  No person to walk up the track to the catching pen.  No dogs allowed on track at any time unless participating in an official race.

4.  Please keep your children right back from the fence during a race.  The onus is on the parent/guardian for the safety of your children at all times.

5 Dogs must be 12 months & over to participate in racing.

6.  Please bring along an extra lead & a person to help catch your dog at the end of the race.  If you are on your own please speak to a committee member & they may be able to organise someone to help you catch your dog.

7. All participants to pick up after their dog & place in bins provided. Poo bags are available from merchandise or entries tables.  Also please dispose of all rubbish thoughtfully.

8. All dogs shall be raced at owner’s risk.

9. Everyone must keep their dogs in their cars if they see greyhounds are still trialling or if greyhounds are still present at the complex. THIS IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT.

This is a new venue for us so if we abide by these rules The Melton Greyhound Club might allow us the continued use of this great facility because our events are generally run incident free.  We do not wish to jeopardise our good relationship with this club so we ask that you adhere strictly to these rules.  Please be considerate of fellow whippet lovers.  If WE lose this new venue YOU will lose your LURE RACE/FUN DAYS!!!!!

Please print these rules out and keep on hand as a reminder.
